Minecraft may not look like much from the outset – it’s an odd-looking blocky world where you start out with nothing and there are no set objectives. Play it once though and you’ll be hooked, trust me!

In September, 2014, Microsoft took note of the game’s popularity and bought it for a staggering $2.5 billion.
Crazy, right?
While Minecraft is an awesome game to play, it isn’t free.
If you don’t have to cash to spend on games right now or are just looking to save money, then you might be wondering how to get free Minecraft.
There are actually quite a few ways to get the game at no cost. I got it for free!
In this post, I’ll cover ways you can get Minecraft for free.
And I’ll cover how I got the game for my Xbox One without spending a penny!
How much does Minecraft Cost?
There are two main editions of Minecraft, which are:
- Java: This is the PC version.
- Bedrock: This is the version available on non-PC devices, like the Xbox One, PS4, Apple Phones, and Android phones.
So the price of the game can vary.
The Java edition will set you back $26.95 or your local currency equivalent.
The Bedrock edition varies in price depending on which device you’re using. For example, you may pay just $6.99 for the game on your mobile device or $19.99 on a games console like the Xbox One.
Like I said you might not want to spend cash on the game. You may want to try it out for free or just not have the cash to spend.
Below, I’ll give you ways to get the Java and Bedrock edition for Minecraft for free.
I got the Bedrock version for free – and I’ll give you a step-by-step guide to how I did it!
To make things easier, I’ve broken this section down by device type. So you’ll be able to find exactly what you’re looking for.
How to Get Microsoft for Free on Your PC
The PC version of Minecraft is the original and many people prefer to play from their desktop device.
Thankfully, there are quite a few ways you can get MC at no cost for your PC. The version of the game that’s available for the PC is called the Java edition, as I briefly mentioned above.
Here’s how to download Minecraft for free…
1. Get a free demo from Mojang
Mojang, the company that created MC, is offering a free demo version of the game to PC users.
To get it, you’ll need to register for a Mojang account, which you can do here.
Once you’ve done that, you’ll need to download the Minecraft launcher, which you can do here.
The demo version of MC lasts five in-game days, which is about 100 minutes.
It’s not a super long time. It does, however, give you time to decide whether you like the game and if your PC can run MC before you decide to get the full game.
2. Play an old version of the game (with up to 9 friends)
You can get Minecraft Classic for free on your PC.
This isn’t my favorite way to get the game, because it’s an old version from 2009.
That being said, you still get a free Minecraft download for PC.
With Minecraft Classic, you play the Creative mode of the game. Because it’s older, this version lacks some of the features you’ll find in more modern releases. Also, you’ll only able to use 32 blocks and you’ll have to deal with an older user interface, plus all of the old bugs.
If none of that bothers you and you just want a free version of Minecraft that you can play right from your browser, then you might want to give Minecraft Classic a try.
Start your Minecraft Classic game here.
3. Surveys On The Go
If you don’t mind sharing your opinion, consider using Surveys On The Go. With it, you can make money taking surveys. You get paid $1 to $5 per surveys with some paying as much as $10 or more!
You can then have your cash sent to your PayPal account and or get it on an Amazon gift card. Use your gift card or PayPal cash to buy MC without emptying your bank account!
- Sign up for Surveys On The Go here.
Here’s where you can get the app:
- Download Surveys On The Go for iOS devices here.
- Download Surveys On The Go for Android devices here.
Don’t worry if you’re looking for a full version of the game that’s up to date, or if you don’t want to take surveys, there are plenty of ways to get MC for free!
For even more ways to get the game for free on your PC, please go to the “How to get Minecraft for free on any device” section.
How to Install Minecraft for Free on Xbox One or PlayStation (the tricks I use!)
I play the Bedrock version of MC on the Xbox One and have found it to be really great!
The best part is that I got the game for free.
In this section, I’ll cover ways you can get the game at no cost if you have a PlayStation or Xbox.
And of course, I’ll start out with how I managed to get the game for free first…
4. Sign up for Microsoft rewards if you have an Xbox (how I got the game for free!)
I’d highly recommend that you sign up for Microsoft Rewards if you’re looking to play Minecraft on your Xbox. The Bedrock Edition of the game is awesome. It’s the one that I have and I got it for free because I used Microsoft Rewards.
How to boot an os from a usb. Here’s my step-by-step guide for using MR to get Minecraft for free:
Step One: Earn points
If you don’t already know, Microsoft Rewards is a rewards program that will give you points when you search the internet using Bing or Microsoft Edge.
You can earn even more points by taking daily quizzes and doing other easy tasks.
I find that it’s a pretty fun program and the points rack up quickly, particularly if you search a lot online, as I do for my work research.
You can sign up for Microsoft rewards here.
Just start searching and doing quizzes to earn points.
Step Two: Redeem them for gift cards
Once you have enough points, you’ll be able to redeem them for gift cards in the rewards store.
I found a gift card that gave me GamePass for free. GamePass is basically like Netflix for games. You pay a monthly fee and get access to a library of games you can play for free. Thanks to my gift card though I didn’t have to spend a penny to unlock the library.
Step Three: Enjoy your free Minecraft Bedrock edition!
So I got the gift card and got access to all of the games that came along with my free GamePass membership.
And this included Minecraft.
I could play Minecraft and all of the other games in the catalog without spending a penny!
Awesome, right?
A few things to keep in mind and another trick…
Please keep in mind that the titles available with GamePass do change, so depending on when you sign up, the game may not be available.
Also the country you live in will determine which games are available to you.
If at the time you come to sign up, Minecraft isn’t featured in the GamePass library, then there’s another way to use Microsoft rewards to get the game for free.
I’ve used this tip as well.
Like I said above, Microsoft Rewards gives you points you can redeem for gift cards. There are lots of gift card types available, including ones for the Xbox store. I’ve gotten gift cards so many times and I’ve been able to use them to get a discount on games or get them for free.
5. Get a free demo for your console
Remember Mojang gave PC users a free demo of the game?
Well, console users aren’t left out.
You can also find free demo versions of Minecraft for Xbox and PlayStation consoles. How to edit sound files in audacity.
You can find the MC demo for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 through the Xbox Store.
And you can find the demo versions of MC for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita in the PlayStation Store.
Just search the store for the word “Minecraft.”
It’s important to note that the demo versions for consoles are limited to the tutorial level. And you can’t save your game progress either.
How to Download Minecraft for Free on iPhones & Android
What if you want to play Minecraft on the go? Well, then you may want to get the mobile version. It’s available for both iPhones and Android phones too.
You’ll get access to the Bedrock edition of the game and all of the fun that comes along with it!
Sadly, there’s no demo version available for phones, like there is for the PC and gaming consoles. Don’t worry though! There’s another option for getting MC at no cost!
Here’s where you can get Minecraft for free on your phone…
6. Use the Current Music App (for Android)
You can get Minecraft for free on your Android device by using the Current Music app.
As explained in our Current Music app review, this app pays you for listening to music. Yes, you read that right. You can choose from more than 100,000 radio stations!
You can also earn for:
- Taking surveys
- Trying new apps
- Shopping
- Referring friends
You can then redeem your earnings for a gift card to the Google Play Store where you can get your hands on a copy of MC for your phone at no cost!
- Get the Current Music app for Android devices here.

7. Sign up for Swagbucks (Literally any device!)

Using GrabPoints, you could get MC for free on your:

I’ve said it before but GrabPoints is one of the best-reviewed rewards platforms out there. It has a 4-star rating on Trustpilot and an A rating with the BBB.
I have a full review of the website and app if you want to check that out here.
It makes our list today though because it actually offers Minecraft gift codes as a redemption option.
And it offers gift cards for the Google Play Store, App Store, and the Xbox Store too.
GrabPoints gives you points when you do tasks, like:
- Watch videos
- Complete surveys

Once you’ve accumulated 2,000 points, you can claim a Minecraft Code at the GrabPoints rewards store. The code is then emailed to you and it’s yours to spend!
Just login to your Mojang account on Minecraft.net and you’ll be able to redeem the code for a free copy of the game for your PC. If you don’t already have a Mojang account you can just head on over to Minecraft.net to create one, and it won’t cost you anything.
Or you can get a gift card for the Google Play Store, App Store, and Xbox store and use it to get a free copy of the game for your device.

If you’ve been wondering how to get free Minecraft, give these tips a try.
Minecraft child account is highly appealing for children with the Creative mode allowing them limitless resources to build whatever they want. While Survival mode means the players must mine the resources to feed, build a house, and protect themselves.
Minecraft Child Accounts
Initially, Minecraft’s parental controls were highly limited, and the multiplayer mode was risky for young children. But now, things have changed a lot, with the Better Together Update which gives parents more control over their kids’ activities.
Irrespective of whether your child is playing a multiplayer game on a mobile device, Windows 10 PC, or a gaming console, there is a need for an Xbox Live sign-in to play online multiplayer games. And the creation of an Xbox Live account and Gamertag allows parents to set privacy and multiplayer preferences to their child account.
Though, Minecraft is safe doesn’t make the internet itself safe, meaning concerned parents need to look for ways to make sure that their child is safe whenever they play online.
Here, we’ve compiled a comprehensive guide on everything Minecraft does to make your child safe, and how you can also take extra steps to further protect your child.
Minecraft Parental Controls via Xbox Live and In-Game Security
Xbox Live sign-in is required now to play Minecraft multiplayer games online. And creating an Xbox Live account and Gamertag allows parents to set up privacy and multiplayer preferences.
- To set up Parental control, log in to Xbox Live Account at login.live.com. If you don’t yet have an Xbox Live Account, you can easily create one for free, using a Microsoft account.
- Within your Xbox Live Account, click on Privacy and Online Safety. There you’ll find the gamerpics for everyone in your Microsoft Family.
- Now, find Join Multiplayer Games Settings: once you disallow this function, your child won’t be able to join any multiplayer games online in Minecraft or even shared local worlds, realms, or servers.
- Child Accounts for Under 13: Here, you must provide permission to create an Xbox Live account, and creating a child account here: https://account.microsoft.com/family/addmember. Child accounts have multiplayer communication blocked by default.
- Others Can Communicate with Voice, Text, or Invites Settings: When these settings are blocked, your child can still join and play multiplayer Minecraft games, but they won’t be able to see chat messages from other players or their invitations to join games.
And for in-game security, you can add, mute, block, or report players via the Minecraft Pause menu. Also, you can set player permissions from the Pause menu, so that your child can invite friends to look at but not join worlds, or help fight off zombies without attacking themselves.
How to Allow Your Child to Add Friends on Minecraft
Definitely, your kids love to play Minecraft together with their friends even though they can’t be in the same physical place. There are four (4) ways to go about it, as listed in the following sections, which you’ll find arranged by from the easiest to most difficult.
1. Buying a Minecraft Realm for Shared Play
Minecraft Realms is the official Minecraft server platform in the world, as it’s hosted and maintained by Mojang, Minecraft’s parent company.
Therefore, it is the absolute simplest solution, hands down, and to purchase a Minecraft Realm for Shared Play starting at barely $7.99 a month (with the first month free), you also get an easily accessible and up-to-date Minecraft server with three worlds as well as a host of minigame templates if your kids want to play minigames with their friends.
And for security, the Realms servers are strictly whitelisted, which means players require manual approval to gain access to the server and no random person can join the server with your kids.
So if your child wants to play Minecraft with friends, and don’t have interest in playing with game mods or server plugins, getting a Minecraft Realms account is a no-brainer, and they only have space for 10 players.
2. Buying Third-party Hosts
It is more flexible to join third-party hosts but with more hands-on technical requirements, if you’re ready to invest a little energy into the project, then you may have to consider buying a third-party Minecraft host.
How To Sign Up Minecraft
There are some benefits with third-party hosts over a Realms server, which includes the fact that you’ll get more for your dollar spent, which about $7 per month spent on a Realms server will get you a third-party host that supports several more players (about 20 or more within the price range).
Also, most hosts like SeekaHost Minecraft Server Hosting include support for mods and plugins that enhances Minecraft with cool new features, and your child’s server will have a memorable name so that friends can easily join even a web-based control panel where you can manage toggling plugins on and off and the whitelist.
3. Self-Hosting Minecraft with Your Hardware
If you’re the geeky type and have ample time to manage every aspect of running Minecraft server for your kids or perhaps, your kid can handle it, then you can choose to run a Minecraft server with your own hardware.
The upside of hosting your own server is that you have total control over the entire process, and you can choose the server software, coupled with the fact that the files are stored right in your system, and all the gameplay takes place right there.
You can check out our guide for setting up a Minecraft server or a third party server platform like Spigot that supports mods and plugins, here.
4. Sharing a LAN Game
This is when people are playing Minecraft on the same network, for instance, your child and friends are playing Minecraft on two different laptops at home, they can use the “Open to LAN” feature to share the game so that their friend can join too, and they can all play together.
But in order to make this work out across the internet, every time your child starts up a Minecraft game and uses the “Open to LAN” feature, it requires that you go to the settings of your home router to change them as every LAN game has its own random port number that needs an updated port forwarding rule.
In conclusion, you can check out the further guide to play Minecraft with friends (for beginners and existing players) with instructions and hacks, all covered for you to get started and play online with also the option of joining free Minecraft servers at SeekaHost. The step-by-step instructions will show you how to get your friends to join your server and the tips to build your own community. And even earn money from the game you enjoy playing!
